Stories of the Bible, Podcast 6, “Creation Pt 5.”

Now the earth is prepared for Adam and Eve, our first parents. It was ordained by God that all his children who came to earth had to come through the seed of Adam and Eve. It is time now for Adam to be placed on the earth. His body is made from the dust of the earth.

“Genesis 2:7

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

What is the “breath of life”? As we have learned, all the spirit children of God were created first. The” breath of life” simply means that God placed Adam’s immortal spirit in his physical body. Everyone who is born on this earth must go through the same process. Both the immortal spirit and the physical body are created in the image and likeness of God.

We don’t know when the spirit is first placed in the body. Only God knows that, but one thing is certain, no child breathes without the ‘breath of life.’ Once the spirit is placed in the body, it becomes “a living soul.” That is why Christians take such a firm stand against abortion and why they consider pregnancy sacred. It is through the union of man and woman that God sends his spirit children into the world.  That places the family as being in partnership with God in multiplying and replenishing the earth.  The soul is comprised of both the immortal spirit and the mortal body. What is unique about the story of Adam and Eve is that even with a physical body, they are immortal and would remain in that immortal state forever had Lucifer not entered the Garden and tempted them with the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The cosmic paradox is that in their immortal state they are unable to bear children. Yet we learned in chapter one that one of the first commandments they received was to multiply and replenish the earth.

Genesis 1:27-28

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

It is a commandment they could not keep unless they ate of the forbidden fruit. But we must keep in mind that the above command was given in Genesis Chapter 1, even before they had physical bodies, even before the earth and the garden of Eden were created. God had called a grand council. He is speaking to all the “Hosts of Heaven.” They are all Celestial spirits, angels in heaven. God is explaining to them—I should say that God is explaining to us all—why he is going to create the earth.

That is why the Lord said to Job “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? …When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Where else but in heaven could “the morning stars sing together and all the sons of God shout for joy”? We, as immortal spirits, were all in that council. We sang together. We shouted for joy together. We knew the fall had to occur, but we agreed to come to earth anyway. Why?—because we wanted our agency. We wanted to have a physical body. We can only assume that Adam and Eve, as spirits, were also in that council and they agreed to be the first parents. In fact, they would have been called to that great position by Jesus Christ himself.

We knew before coming to earth that Jesus Christ would redeem us from our sins, or we probably would never have agreed to come to earth. Everyone who came to earth to gain a body was first a Christian. The spirit of Christ is in every child born on this planet earth. It is that spirit that helps us discern between good and evil. That is the origin of conscience; however, as we know, man’s conscience can be corrupted.
