Season 6, Podcast 65, Isaiah 14:1-8 “Signs of the Times.”
A running theme with Isaiah is the Millennium. Measuring time through Biblical chronology, the approximate dates are
Adam to Abraham = 2000 years
Abraham to Moses = 500 years
Exodus to Solomon’s Temple = 480 years
Solomon to Babylonian exile = 400 years
Babylonian exile to Christ = 586 years
That means that from Adam to Christ was approximately 4000 years. Measure from the birth of Christ to our day—which Biblical scholars place around 4 BC because of measurable historical events. That equals 6029 years from Adam to today. No prophet has ever revealed the exact date of the Second Coming of Christ. Any future speculation will fail as have all past speculations. Describing the coming of Christ, Paul said,
1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
Paul clearly took his que from the words of Christ.
Matthew 24:42-43
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
Christ admonishes us.
Matthew 24:44
Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Paul echoes the words of Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-80
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
All the signs point to the fact that we are living in the last days, and Christ could come any day; therefore, we must be always ready and not be like the five foolish virgins who did not have enough oil in their lamps.
Scriptures dealing with the last days are called “the signs of the times.” We naturally look to John the Revelator. John places the beginning of the signs of the times during the sixth seal— that is during the six thousand years of time since Adam—and many of the signs have already been fulfilled. One sign is that weather patterns will change dramatically.
Revelation 7:1-2
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea.
The Millennium, however, does not come until after the sixth seal is finished. The more dramatic events begin at the opening of the seventh seal. The year is 2025. Chronologically we are about 29 years into the opening of the seventh seal. In other words, the sixth seal is now closed, and the seventh is now opened. This is the period when Christ comes again to cleanse the earth, and the Millennium begins. The exact day when the Lord Comes is only known to the Lord. Common sense says that it could come any day, making the words of Christ even more poignant, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
