Season 6, Podcast 42, Isaiah 2:1-22, “The Millennium.”

Isaiah could also be called the Millennium prophet. Many prophets spoke of the Millennium: Ezekial, Hosea, Joel, Micah, Zechariah, Matthew, John. But none, perhaps, more than Isaiah.

Isaiah 2:1

1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

Why did Isaiah say Judah and Jerusalem? Aren’t they the same thing. They are inextricably connected, of course; however, Isaiah is speaking of a separation. Within less than a hundred years, approximately 84, Jerusalem will be conquered by the Babylonians, the temple will be destroyed, and Judah will be led into exile in Babylon for 70 years. Though they return to Jerusalem and the temple is rebuilt, things are never the same.  After the death of Christ, the temple again is destroyed and the Jews are once more sent into exile, and this time not just to Babylon but to the ends of the earth.

Isaiah, however, now looks over 2500 years into the future. There will be a new temple and a new day.

Isaiah 2:2

2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

We have the exquisite image of John the Revelator.

Revelation 21:1-4

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

From the prophet Joel we learn,

Joel 3:17

17 So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.

The millennium is like a Sabbath of the Lord. It is no coincidence that the Millennium comes during the seventh thousand years of man’s existence on earth. We are told that a thousand years is as a day unto the Lord. The Millennium will be 1000 years of peace and rest. Christ himself will be the judge.

Isaiah 2:4-5

4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

The Lord is calling the entire house of Israel, which has been scattered throughout the earth, to return. Besides peace, the gathering of Israel is one of the hallmarks of the Millennium. In that day they will accept Christ and return to their rightful home. Ezekial records.

Ezekiel 36:35

35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited.

War will cease. Enmity among man and beast will cease.
