Season 5 Podcast 141 Book of Revelation “Opening of the Seven Seals, L, Chapter 14:1-7 A “A New Song.”

Chapter 14 stands in antithetical parallelism to Chapter 13. In Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation, we have two frightening beasts rising, one out of the sea, the other out of the land. The first beast symbolizes evil domination by war. The second beast symbolizes evil domination by controlling the wealth.

In Revelation 14 we have the Lamb of God.

“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.”

Notice, however, that the second beast of Revelation 13 is a counterfeit of the true lamb.

Revelation 13:1

“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”

He may have the appearance of a lamb; however, he speaks as a dragon, a symbol of Satan. The true Lamb of God, who comes neither from the sea nor the earth but from heaven and stands on Mount Sion, presents himself as the true Son of the Father. He is accompanied by heavenly music.

Revelation 14:2

“And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:”

Above, the voice of Christ is compared to the sound of many waters and also as the sound of thunder. When Christ first appeared to John on the Isle of Patmos, his voice was described as “a great voice, as of a trumpet.’ His voice was also described in Revelation 1 as “the sound of many waters.” Those who have stood near mighty waterfalls, such as Niagara Falls, can perhaps hear the relentless, roaring sound. The idea, of course, is that it is a voice of great power. This is not the carpenter of Nazareth. This is the Resurrected Lord who shares the throne with His Father. In Revelation 1 John further describes the risen Lord:

Revelation 1:14-16

“His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.”

That is a very imposing image. In Revelation 14 John continues:

Revelation 14:3

“And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.”

We are not to assume that only 144,000 are saved in the Kingdom of God or that only 24 Elders share the throne of God. Let’s go back to Revelation 5:

Revelation 5:10-11

“And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;”

Shortly after speaking of the sealing of the 144,000, John records the number of their converts.
