Season 5 Podcast 117 Book of Revelation Chapter 8, “Opening of the Seven Seals D, The Seventh Seal, Silence in Heaven.”
In the previous podcast entitled ‘White Robes’ we examined the sixth seal. In this podcast we shall continue with the opening of the seven seals.
Revelation 8:1
“1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.”
The key phrase is ‘silence in heaven.’ During the opening of the previous seals, there was anything but silence. The four horsemen of the apocalypse contained battles, death, sword, and famine.
Revelation 6:8
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
But the real violence attended the opening of the sixth seal.
Revelation 6: 12-17
“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
That means that silence would be very welcome. Of course, if one day is as a thousand years with the Lord, as Peter said,
2 Peter 3:8
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Then the half hour of silence is not just thirty minutes. It would be a few decades, just enough for people to again become complacent. After the silence, what happens?
Revelation 8: 2
“And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.”
There is the number seven again, which means completion. We immediately consider the story of the creation of the earth. The work was done in six days, but it is the seventh day that seals the work and completes the process. From that point on we were to use the seventh day of the week to rest from earthly toils and contemplate God who created the earth. Another interesting analogy is the story of John’s seven letters to the seven churches. Each letter is of itself important; however, one must study all seven letters to get the complete picture. They contain cursing and blessings. Though written to individual churches, each letter is meant to be studied to know how to gain eternal life with God.
So it is with the seven angels. Each must be comprehended. The seven angels symbolize the terrible commotion that occurs just prior to the Second Coming of Christ. We are expected to recognize the signs of the times when they occur and be prepared. The Seven Angels are preceded by another angel who has a unique office.
